Why Groups?
Gathering in groups is God's way of getting us to work in tandem with Him to experience transformation in one another's lives. One of our values at PABC is building through relationships. We encourage every believer to gather with groups of passionate believers and invest in one another's lives. Without groups, spiritual formation and personal spiritual growth is just not possible. Groups provide a place for the Holy Spirit to do His work in our lives so that we can be reflections of Christ.
What type of Groups can I join?
At Park Avenue, we have three types of group ministry.
Sunday Bible Study Groups
Bible study groups are generally larger than small groups and meet on campus during our Sunday morning Community Hour (9:45 – 10:45 am). The primary purpose of these groups is to offer ongoing life-transforming Bible study; to reach the lost and unchurched, and to provide caring ministry. We have many age-graded ongoing bible studies and also specific short term classes offered quarterly throughout the year. Click here for a list of our Bible Study Groups
Small Groups
These groups consist of 4 to14 people who meet weekly in host homes. These groups focus on transformation of the heart more than gathering biblical information. Small groups function in a variety of ways: Fellowship, Bible Study, Prayer, Worship, Serving and Church-wide Sermon Series Groups. These groups meet any time during the week decided on by the group.
Support Groups
These groups are generally larger than small groups and are focused on a specific area of personal growth and ministry. The weekly meetings include a large group setting followed by smaller breakout groups. Griefshare, Divorce Care and Celebrate Recovery would fall under this area of GroupLife
Which group should I join?
We suggest you join a group based on your "season of life" or your desired focus for personal spiritual growth. Most of our groups work best when the people within the group share common interests, backgrounds, marital status or similar aged children. A few of our groups are multi-generational due to content and structure of the group (ie. Starting Point Groups, Support Groups and certain Short-term Sunday Morning Bible Studies).
Honestly, sometimes it might take two or three groups before you find the perfect fit. But don't worry, you'll find it! A listing of all groups is available in our church office as well as on our website at www.parkavenue.org.
How do I join a group?
We want to make the process of finding a group that meets your personal preferences and needs as easy possible. The easiest and quickest ways to get a part of group at our church is to come to our Community Hour on Sunday morning and join an ongoing Sunday Bible Study Group. These run all year long and are open to anyone who would like to attend. Once every three months we have a Church Wide Adult Community Hour Fellowship where you can find out information about our short term (10 week) Bible study class offerings.
To join a small group we encourage you to be invited by one of our small group leaders or to be placed by one of our Group Coaches into a small group. In ordered to best assist you, we encourage you to meet with one of our small group coaches for a short Q & A so that we can get to know you better. We have found this to be the best way to help you find a group that best fits your needs and desires for relationship.
Support groups run year round and are open weekly for those that need support.
