Conception of the Church
The conception of Park Avenue Baptist Church started back in the early 1960’s. Many new people were coming into the Titusville area because of the fledgling space program. Most of these families were young, enthusiastic and from diverse backgrounds. They came from all parts of the United States. Many made their church home First Baptist Church of Titusville. There was a core group of church members at First Baptist, many of whom came from pioneer families in the area. The pastor at First Baptist had been at the church for fourteen years. He was at retirement age and soon retired as the church grew and the work load increased.
Prayer
A group of men began to meet regularly on Thursday nights to pray for God to move upon the church. No one really had a plan of his own. They met on Thursday nights so the normal Wednesday night service was not disrupted. God began to answer the prayers of His people as they asked for His will without any human demands.
Interim Pastor
The church was led to call an Interim Pastor after the pastor resigned. They called an 80-year old retired evangelist who was still full of life, and had a heart for God. As he led the congregation, people began to come to the Lord. There were many baptisms and many new members were added to the church.
Selection of Pastor
The church selected a Pulpit Committee who interviewed and listened to the preaching of several different pastors. After some time, Brother Peter Lord, pastor of Haverhill Baptist Church in West Palm Beach, Florida was recommended to the church. The church chose to call him as pastor, and he accepted and moved to Titusville in January 1966. Next Page |
